JOSH ROSS - Movin' On - Universal Music Canada/Mercury Nashville
With what has already been a monumental year for Canadian country superstar Josh Ross, as his current radio release “Single Again” continues to earn high praise and heavily impact the country charts, this past week he was humbly honored with his first-ever CMA Award (CMA Jeff Walker Global Country Artist Award).
Today (Nov. 22, 2024), Ross officially shares his latest track “Movin’ On.”
Draped in an ultra-modern style that bends country flavors into moody pop sensibilities, the song co-written by Josh, Chris LaCorte, Jacob Hackworth, Jaxson Free, and Taylor Phillips walks a stark familiarity sonically while craftily allowing space for the rising star to expand his signature sound, further blurring the boundary lines while placing his voice at the heart of the lyrics.
“Movin’ On was inspired by those relationships where one person decides to call it off but struggles to truly let go and move forward,” says Ross. “I feel like this one shares a different side of me lyrically and sonically. I’ve loved playing it on the road for the last few months and I’ve loved to see the way fans are connecting with it. I’m so excited it’s finally out.”
Told through a high road taken, I’ve already moved on perspective, he uses tonality that nudges should have known better sarcasm against a confident balance of swagger as he outlines her internal struggles with letting him go after she’s done him wrong and walked away from what they had.
Slapping into the chorus with a hard punched reality check, “you told the world I was nowhere bound, but look who's going downhill now,” he proudly raises one up to himself in celebration of the restraint he’s shown during his letting go process.
“Tore off on a high horse, but you're stuck in the fences
You thought you broke me, but you needed the fixing
Out of my life, girl, I got you gone
So what in the hell are you waiting on?
I took the high road, I even paved it
I could've sold you out, but I saved it, I saved it
I had every right to do you wrong
You know that list is long
Ever since we called it off
Why can't you turn that moving on?”
With modern flares embedded into a distinctive sound that’s pulling listeners in by the millions, combined with award-winning recognition in both his homeland of Canada and the US, Josh Ross is moving the dial from artist to watch to one who has arrived and is on his way to becoming the next big thing. “Movin’ On” is the latest example that backs up his quickly paced trajectory, while skillfully whetting the whistle of his growing fanbase with a snapshot of things still to come.
