LANCO FT. CORY ASBURY - We Grew Up Together - Riser House Records
Swirled in a reinvigorated drive after inking a new deal with Riser House Records in 2023, LANCO has continually hyped things to come, layering the foundations of their anticipated sophomore album with buzzworthy singles, “Low Class Lovers,” “You’ll Always Be,” and “Where I Belong.”
With an official announcement made earlier this week that We’re Gonna Make It will release on January 17, 2025, LANCO has now teamed up with Grammy-nominated Christian artist Cory Asbury to offer the latest tease of their forthcoming album.
“We Grew Up Together” is available on all streaming and digital platforms.
Written by Brandon Lancaster, Chandler Baldwin, Tripp Howell, Jared Hampton, and Cory Asbury, the Appalachian infused melody encapsulates the vocal group’s modern storyteller style as they balance the give and take learning experiences that naturally arrive when you have a child; not only travelling the lessons that the parent teaches the child, but also navigating how the child is teaching the parent.
“We often think our parents have it all together, but they’re just people who met each other, fell in love, and had a kid,” says Lanco lead vocalist Brandon Lancaster of the new song. “I realized in raising my own children that we’re all learning as we go. There are so many times when I’m teaching my kids a lesson, and I’m thinking about how it applies to me, too.”
Telling the nine-month to birth story and how in an instant his whole life changed, we see Lancaster leaning deeply into his promises to always try his best while accepting the shift of his own lifestyle, moving away from whiskey-soaked nights into restless days and sleeplessness with a full understanding that, “holding you I don't need nothing else.”
Using the harmony lift of the chorus to provide a checklist of heart-felt, back-and-forth lessons, growing together moments that shaped who he’s become and is still becoming through raising a child, he sings:
“You learned to walk
I learned to walk in my faith
You learned to talk
I learned the things I shouldn't say
You ain't the only one who's gonna make mistakes
God made you, you made me better
We both won't stay young forever
You don't know it now but one day you'll find out
That we grew up together
We grew up together”
By hugging tightly to the forward smiled notion that somewhere down the road his child will realize that they were always both growing up together, the lyrics compassionately stamp a heartwarming exclamation point on the maturity led transformation that highlights the impactful truth that when we have children the only thing we know is that we don’t know nothing…but we’re always learning as we go!
