CHRIS JANSON - Cheap - Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment
Chris Janson has made himself a household name across country music for his down-to-earth demeanor, show-stopping live shows, as well as his ability to intertwine fun, party anthems with thought-provoking tunes about real-life, middle-class America.
His latest effort encourages us all to slow down and reflect on what really matters to us in this life that will never be long enough. “Cheap” is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment.
Written by Janson along with Brian White, Will Nance, Mitch Oglesby, and Keesy Timmer, the cleverly-crafted tune is a nostalgic and humble reminder to all of us to take advantage of the time we have, spending it doing the things we like with the ones we love, rather than prioritizing material gain and commercial success.
“I love this song, because it makes me feel something”, Janson said. “We only get so much time to be alive, and time is short. As I have said before, money can’t buy happiness, and time is something that we can’t get back. And don’t we all wish we could buy back a little time, and a couple memories? So, we better live every moment to its fullest and remember that time truly does make money look cheap. Get out there and make some memories that last a lifetime”.
As has been the case with much of his music over the years, “Cheap” is able to keep the listener interested with its mid-tempo, guitar driven catchy undertones while instilling the values and intended purpose of the song’s core message. Having always succeeded at connecting with his audience on a personal and musical level simultaneously, Janson once again delivers with a tune that will resonate with us all well after the first listen.
“When’s the last time you found five minutes
Crumpled up on the street?
Or poured a little cash in the hourglass
Bought you back one week
You could stack up the green down at the bank
But let me tell you, friend, you ain’t as rich as you think
When you’re down to your last heartbeat
Time makes money look cheap”
Janson’s voice is impressive as always, delivering the beautifully poetic lyrics through his trademark down-to-earth vocal demeanor. Always wearing his heart on his sleeve, the Perryville, MO native continues to evolve as a singer and songwriter, even after all of the success he has had with massive hits over the years. That trend continues with “Cheap”, which promises to be another fan favorite.
The release of this new tune comes as things are set to keep busy for Janson. Known for his charitable works, Chris appeared on United Way’s special, ‘United is the Way – Hurricane Relief 2024’. The benefit concert sought to bring together the power of music, celebrity voices, and community spirit for an hour long televised special on CBS and CMT. Jason also announced dates for his Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get Tour, which will keep him on the road for much of 2025.
