ERIN GIBNEY - by june - Rock Ridge Music

Though she layered the early part of her career with breakout singles “Easy Like That” and “Naïve,” as Erin Gibney has matured, she’s honed in on a very attractive style that’s flavored her modern country vibes with a purely pop essence.

Sharing every facet of her heartbeat on her recent songs, “Talk Me Out Of Him,” “You Made Your Bed,” and “Kryptonite,” she’s consistently connected with her young adult demographic as each next release turns like pages of her own diary.

She now delivers what might be her most vulnerable song to date, “by june.”

"I wrote 'by june' shortly after ending my first long-term relationship. I remember talking to my friends and expressing how I felt like I would never get over it. It all seemed so daunting and like I had so much healing to do. My friends told me that time would be the cure, and, by the next summer, I wouldn't feel so hurt by the situation. That's when the idea of 'by june' came to me. I started walking myself through the process of moving on and thought of the little moments that would signify I was getting over my ex. Writing this song gave me hope during that time in my life, and it ended up being truthful for my situation. I really was over him by June."

Co-written by Gibney and Landon Austin, the simplicity of the piano accompaniment sits comfortably in a swarm of moodiness as Erin uses the bends of her voice to tilt the emotional tugs that naturally arrive when trying to move on.

Confessing that she’s in a headspace where memories are holding her back and she’s constantly wondering if she’s always going to live driftlessly lost in the past, she transparently reveals the anxiousness of the next steps when she laments on if she’s ever going to be able to go back to his side of town, if she can play the same songs and not think about him, etc.

With the audible effect of a clock ticking faintly in the background adding an element of production intrigue, she turns the calendar pages of the chorus on the back of the well-meaning, support line of hope from her friends, “Everyone says by this time next year I’ll be fine.”

“By August I’ll quit calling

Just to hear you say my name

December I won’t remember

The way your hands felt on my waist

And by March it won’t be so hard

To picture me with someone new

And if they’re right on the timeline

I’ll be over you by June”

Erin Gibney unapologetically continues to take slight risks within her sound while maintaining a signature aura that’s drafting a defining characteristic of who she is. As she comes more and more into her own, the connective transparency that’s developing between her and the listener is providing the foundational stones to stand on as she builds a grassroot following while craftily excelling her career with a steady line of new fans in tow each time out.
