JUSTIN MOORE, RANDY HOUSER - The Worst - The Valory Music Co.

Ever since the release of his self-titled debut album in 2009, Justin Moore has been consistently true to his approach to making music, from his traditional take on modern country to his perpetual odes and homages to values, morals, and sentiments to yesteryear.  Perhaps no better exemplified by his hit single, “Small Town U.S.A.”, which was featured on that debut record, his songwriting style has ebbed and flowed a bit but the core mainstay of who he is as an artist has remained the same.

Now, fifteen years after his mainstream debut, the now forty-year old Moore is remaining true to his roots with a brand-new tune, and he’s bringing a close friend and fellow-country star into the fold.  “The Worst”, featuring Randy Houser, is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via The Valory Music Co.

Written by Moore along with Chase McGill and Jeremy Stover, “The Worst” is cut from the same cloth as some of Justin’s biggest hits of his career.  Similarly, it spotlights a topic common to many other tunes in recent memory, reflecting on years past while examining today’s cultural climate with nostalgia and melancholy.  It’s an honest and transparent view into the songwriters’ minds and hearts and how they see the world today.

A stark view at today’s materialism and avarice approach to life, the song croons its way through the verses that paint a picture of the current snapshot of a kid’s life before propelling into a quick-lined chorus of reminiscence and reflection.

“Push mower how to make a little cash, the worst

Butt whoopin’ that’ll teach a boy fast

That you better be happy with what you have

Even if all you have is the worst

Little house at the end of the road

Thought I was doin’ better now I don’t know

Maybe havin’ the best ain’t how life’s supposed to work

‘Cause I learned from the worst”

From start to finish, this is an unmistakable Justin Moore track.  From his boastful, unapologetic statement of pride and confidence to its successful efforts to make a modern song sound traditional, along, of course, by Moore’s trademark twang, this is right in the wheelhouse of what we have come to expect from the chart-topping artist over the last decade and a half.

Moore recently announced the next chapter of his multi-platinum career, sharing that his eighth studio album, ‘This Is My Dirt’, will be released on October 11th.  Featuring twelve tracks, all of which co-written by Moore, will feature “The Worst”, as well as “Put A Boot In It”, and the title track, as well as other tunes featuring the likes of Blake Shelton and Dierks Bentley.

In addition to collaborating on “The Worst”, Moore and Houser kick off the Country Round Here Tonight Tour in early September, hitting venues across the country through the fall.
