LILY GRACE - Old Enough To Know Better - Independent Release
Layering her path with upbeat diary clips that struck the right chord with her 20-something demographic, Australian country starlet Lily Grace has expertly blended pop sensibilities and a modern country core into snapshots of chasing dreams, young lust, and playfully falling, culminating now in the release of her 9-track, debut album Old Enough To Know Better.
With an ambitious 6 of the 9 tracks already acting as previews, starting with “Follow My Road” in January of 2023 and most recently landing at “Give Me That,” the title track then becomes the defining focus in correlation with the overall vibe of the album.
As each next year passes and our years only continue to tick upward, the want and desire to hold onto the youthful spirit of jumping carefree into your dreams becomes even more prevalent as you begin to grow into young adulthood.
Though it’s certainly natural for us to all feel that way through our growing up years, with “Old Enough To Know Better” Lily Grace stands firm on the belief that while she understands growing older means no more teenage excuses, it doesn’t mean growing up to the point that you lose sight of what you’re meant to be doing with your life.
Co-written with Steve Peters, the soft clap along groove immediately pulls you into the float on the breeze nature of the lyrics, perfectly accompanying the spirit of the song as Lily autobiographically spells out the definitions of the life she chooses to live, tallying that it may be a shock to some and that she might seem a little insane within her idea of keeping her heart wild while also stamping firmly on honest truth, “if you can’t smile, you can’t take a joke.”
Shifting melodically into a sway along styled chorus that instantly has you pumping a fist alongside its irresistible rhythm, Lily Grace gathers every dreamer together as she encourages them to let go of their fears and anxiety and to throw caution to the wind:
“I don’t ever wanna be old enough to know better
Wanna stay young and crazy forever
Wanna take chances, wanna climb heights
Chase this dream ‘til the day I die
I don’t ever wanna be old enough to know better
Gonna throw caution at the wind all together
I don’t ever, I don’t ever, I don’t ever want to be
I don’t ever wanna be old enough to know better”
Crafted as not only an anthem for her peers, but for all of us of any age who dig deeper than surface to dissect every outcome before we’ll take the chance and make the leap of faith, Lily Grace boldly gives us the go ahead to stop overthinking, to jump off the side of the cliff, and to just go for it while learning to build wings and fly on our way down.
