Old Dominion provided us with a fun and carefree summer single earlier this year with “I Was On A Boat That Day,” which instantly saw them being added to many feel good playlists and finding their way to the Top 15 on the country music chart.

Following that summertime success, the reigning CMA and ACM vocal group of the year has now returned with their new song, “All I Know About Girls,” and they’ve given us another preview of things to come with their next album.

Whereas “I Was On A Boat That Day” gave us a rowdier feel, “All I Know About Girls” carries a much mellower vibe that squeezes a 1970’s adult contemporary sound into a modern country twist that provides the signature catchiness that Old Dominion is known for while giving us the perfect feel to run out the summer months and stride into the fall.

“I’m a jack of all trades and a master of none,” begins the song and sets the entire tone of the lyric.

Lead singer Matt Ramsey admits in the opening verse that while he has a pretty good handle on a lot of things, he hasn’t figured out everything - mainly girls!

He does run through a list of things he thinks he does know about them in the chorus, which includes how the world spins around them, that you need to shut your mouth when they have something to say, etc. Only to then flip the script when we roll into the hook and he sings, “All I know about girls is I don’t know nothing at all.”

There are namecheck references that signal the effect that girls have had on both Hemingway and Hank in the second verse, but where this song lyrically shines is its bridge where it’s revealed that as frustrating as it can be to try figuring girls out, it’s also a lot of fun.

Old Dominion is one of those bands right now that can pretty much release anything and it will run right up the charts. However, what makes them one of country music’s elite is that they continue to challenge themselves to put out solid music rather then just resting in the same ole pocket that’s brought them this far.

“All I Know About Girls” continues to see them stretching to the edges of their comfort zone, while still smartly retaining enough of their signature feel so that you can easily identify this as them the instant that you hear it come on your radio.
