JENNA PAULETTE - Run The Damn Ball - Leo33
While she may be a relatively new name to some, Jenna Paulette is no stranger to us here at Today’s Country Magazine. With a string of releases this year collectively contributing to an impressive catalogue, her latest tune may be her best one yet, and is sure to demand the attention of fans new and old. “Run The Damn Ball” is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via LEO33.
Written by Rodney Clawson, Casey Beathard and Hunter Phelps, this is song that pays homage to traditional principles of the hard-working men and women of yesteryear, who value grit, determination, and fortitude in their daily lives. It’s a precedent that has been and always will be close to Paulette’s core, and one of the reasons why she connected so deeply with this song immediately.
“I am of the firm belief that the word of God, family, livestock, small towns, slow cooking and team sports are some of the things that teach you the most about life and yourself,” Paulette said. “They create good character and accountability. This song is about doing the simple things every day…not worrying about making it fancy or getting credit. Keep your head down, do what’s necessary, and let it all add up to a big win in life.”
A guitar riff-leading intro gets the boots stomping and heads bobbing immediately, quickly shimmying to the first verse laden with clever, quick lines that explode into the sing-along chorus. From start to finish, this is a modern country rocker with splashes of traditional twang to satisfy the musical cravings of fans young and old.
“We run the damn ball, plow the dang dirt
Earn a paycheck, settle down, go to church
Live for the day, we stack ‘em on up
Take the three yards and a cloud of dust
Sunday dinner to Friday night
The game ain’t changed and that’s alright
When all else fails it ain’t a bad call
To pass the green beans and run the damn ball”
To be frank and uncomplicated, this is an awesome song. Its clear, it’s catchy, and it’s fun. But, as is the case in all of Jenna’s tunes, there’s a message in there that shouldn’t be overlooked. She values the manner in which she approaches life, love and everything in between, and “Run The Damn Ball”, through metaphoric ingenuity, invites the listener into her heart and mind through the 3+ minutes of a boot-stomping good time anthem.
The release of “Run The Damn Ball” comes a matter of weeks before her highly-anticipated sophomore album will be available to the masses. ‘Horseback’ is due September 6th, serving as a follow-up to her debut record, ‘The Girl I Was’. Currently on the road with Aaron Watson on The Armadillo Dance Hall Tour, Jenna will be a special guest on select dates of the CMT Next Women Of Country Tour with Kimberly Perry.
