CALLISTA CLARK & SCOTTY MCCREERY - Gettin' Old- Dreamcatcher Artists

As one of the brightest stars on the country music circuit today, Callista Clark’s resume is layered with accolades that have already included being the youngest artist ever named to the CMT Next Women of Country, a selection into the class of Opry NextStage talents, and a Top 40 single with “It’s Cause I Am,” from her acclaimed debut album/diary-piece, Real To Me: The Way I Feel.

2024 has seen a new chapter for the young starlet continually building its foundations on the back of her most recent songs, “Bless Your Heart,” “Reckless,” and her Southern gothic tinted cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen The Rain.”

She now teams up with country superstar, and previous tourmate Scotty McCreery, delivering her newest single, “Gettin’ Old.”

Written by Clark, Averie Bielski, and Karen Kasowski, the song holds tightly to a melancholy aura as Clark and McCreery slide into their respective emotional roles within a stagnant relationship, which while in many aspects is doing a lot of things right is also staying complacent and not advancing with a desired, natural progression which is causing an internal heartache.

Introspectively leaning an overtone of sadness into questions about who they are as a couple and if this will ever become what it should be, the two gifted vocalists balance the broken edges of their hearts against the contradicting feelings of should I stay or should I go.

Same routine that we don't undo, nothing's ever new,” sings Clark, outlining the complacency that’s then spelled out through each of the verses as both perspectives trail the fractured lines of falling apart while questioning if it’s all just tired routine and whether they’re even in love anymore.

In a melding of what their wounded hearts are yearning for as their voices come together, the chorus paints the picture of where they each wish the relationship was; seemingly both wanting the same thing but unable to communicate it to one another:

“By now we should be
Getting that first house, front porch
Little wrap-around, one more
December down while you're holding me through the cold
We should be
Further down the road than we are
Trading bands of gold, but we aren't
Thought we'd be getting old together
But now it's just getting old
Kinda getting old”

With each next song she releases in this current season, Callista Clark is paving her path with very solid footing. A showcase of her abilities in crafting a lyric that grabs hold of heartstrings with an understanding commonality adds connection factor to another strong showing with “Gettin’ Old.” Couple that aspect with the richness of McCreery’s unmistakable vocal and you get an intriguing song that will earn repeat spins as it finds its way to several broken hearted playlists.
