KAYLEY GREEN - Shadow Of A Cowboy - Sony Music Nashville
In a day and age when it seems like a fictional fairytale for an aspiring artist to move to Nashville, and be discovered playing the honkytonks on Broadway and sign to a label soon thereafter, that has the been the reality for Florence, SC native Kayley Green. The talented songstress released her debut single in May of this year, and now she’s back with a brand-new tune. “Shadow Of A Cowboy” is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via Sony Music Nashville.
Written by Green along with Jon Nite, Ross Copperman, and Ben Williams, this is a song for the heartbroken romantic in all of us. The melancholy, slow-to-mid-tempo tune tells the tale of a woman’s realization that a relationship is over and the man she thought she wanted will never be the man she needed him to be. The subject matter is relatable to so many, including Green, who felt a strong sense to the song from the onset.
“As soon as we wrote ‘Shadow of a Cowboy,’ I knew it was special,” Green said. “I spent the last year of my life writing song after song, trying to find my voice and then learning how to write it into music. This is one of the first songs that I felt I was able to do that. The words, the melodies, the high notes, the bridge…it all felt so much like me. I’m so grateful to my co-writers for helping me write a song that I love so much.”
This is a sensible, honest and vulnerable account of a topic that has touched us all in some form or another, and the relatable truth of this song puts the emotional impact to another level. Taking the spotlight, though, is unquestionably Green’s vocal prowess, eloquently and articulately showcasing her power, control, and bravado with a passionate delivery that takes this song over the top.
“Go on run, run, run all the way to Amarillo
‘Cause I know that you won’t ever change
‘Cause all you’ve done, done, done
Is tumble any way the wind blows
Thinking that you’re gonna ride away
You’re just a shadow of a cowboy
A real one would stay”
Slated as her second release of her major label career, “Shadow Of A Cowboy” follows Kayley’s debut single, “Live Fast Die Pretty”, released in May. The song was released on the same day it was formally announced that the SC native had been signed to Sony Music Nashville. Holding a weekend slot at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row on Broadway, Green was discovered by Keith Urban, who invited her to join him at his Bridgestone Arena show. The rest is history, as she is now a fresh young face on the list of promising up-and-coming country singer-songwriters.
