MIDLAND - Vegas - Big Machine Records
Midland continues to build excitement and anticipation for their forthcoming album, ‘Barely Blue’. And a little over a month prior to the project’s release, the award-winning trio is offering a brand-new preview of new music. “Vegas” is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via Big Machine Records.
From start to finish, this is a Midland tune to its core, showcasing the musical comradery and signature celestial harmonies amongst members Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson. The ode to Las Vegas offers a twist, depicting themes of vulnerability and nostalgia towards a brief but true romance.
“’Vegas’ is an homage to the wildest town in the world and the intense connections and losses that tend to happen in Sin City along the way,” Midland’s Mark Wystrach said. “Sonically, the song feels like a tip of the cowboy hat to early George Strait classics penned by the legendary Dean Dillon.”
Cleverly-crafted and flawlessly delivered, the waning melody ebbs and flows effortlessly alongside the beautifully harmonized vocals.
“That’s what happens when what happens in
Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas
Yeah you play to win
But you lose and then
She’s the only thing you can think of
Yeah you bet it all, but your ace don’t fall
The bank ain’t all that’s breakin’
That’s what happens when what happens in
Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas”
Serving as the third release from ‘Barely Blue,’ due September 20th, “Vegas” follows “Lucky Sometimes” and lead single “Old Fashioned Feeling”, which was named one of the best songs of the week by Rolling Stone and Billboard upon its release in May.
Earlier this year, the trio collaborated with Orville Peck on “The Hurtin’ Kind”, which appeared on Peck’s new duets album, ‘Stampede: Vol. 1’. They also released a cover of “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” for cover album, ‘Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty’.
Midland will be supporting ‘Barely Blue’ on the road through the end of the year, kicking off their “The Get Lucky Tour” in September and lasting through December at venues and events from coast to coast.
