JENNA PAULETTE - Outside - Leo 33
With strong showings on “Darlin’,” “Hang Your Hat,” and “Wild Is Her Favorite Color,” there arrived a surge of anticipation and a tremendous amount of buzz for Jenna Paulette’s upcoming sophomore album, Horseback (due out September 6, 2024).
The real-life cowgirl now continues to ride that momentum with the newest teaser from the album, “Outside.”
Written by hitmakers Kelley Lovelace, Ashley Gorley and Dallas Davidson, Paulette says of her immediate connection to the song:
“I heard this song and instantly saw myself in it. We adjusted a few of the lyrics to better fit the 'me' that played Little House on the Prairie with my sisters under the pecan trees at my family's ranch. ‘Outside’ is what shaped me into the woman and artist I am--a west wind blowing through barbed wire truly makes me feel the most at home in my own skin.”
Washed in a nostalgic gripped sway of melody that allows Paulette’s authenticity to shine within her half-smiled drawl, she reflects on her love of the outdoors and the healing comfort it’s always provided her, trailing through early moments as a toddler staring out the screen door to her childhood days of imagination and playing Little House On The Prairie from the dusk until dawn.
A healing aide to her indoor restlessness, Paulette expertly guides the poignant moments of her life where the outdoors played a pivotal role of comforting backdrop to her inner peace, whether it’s laying underneath the stars in her better half’s arms or basking within the aura of being out past the city limit sign while holding tightly to the notion that the wide openness brings you a little closer to a heaven-sent feeling.
Striking the additively catchy chorus with a melodic lift that hits a euphoric moment of clearly understanding what the outside means toward satisfying her soul’s craving, Paulette sings with added flare:
“Outside, give me a midnight moon or a blue sky
A west wind blowin' through the barbed wire
Yeah, I come alive when I feel it on my skin
I'm talkin' out there
Where a worry turns into I don't care
If you wanna get to know me on the inside
See my best side, get me outside”
Through a modern lens of traditionally laced instrumentation that leans heavy on fiddle and lyrics that offer a snapshot account of who she is at her core, Jenna Paulette stays 100% true to her roots on “Outside,” displaying a refreshing honesty that transparently brings the listener one step closer to knowing who she is while hyping the buzz on things still to come when her full album drops.
