LILY GRACE - Give Me That - Independent Release
On her recent writing trip to Nashville, Australian songstress Lily Grace wrote, wrote some more, and then wrote a few more after that, making every moment of her visit truly count as each successful co-write found her further crafting her story into song.
Having layered very solid foundations with her most recent outpouring of singles, “Summer That Got Away” and “Can’t Be Your Juliet,” this past week the budding superstar excitedly announced her debut album Old Enough To Know Better (releasing Aug. 23, 2024) in correlation with the release of her newest tune, “Give Me That.”
Co-written by Lily, Joseph Wandass IV, and Scott Barrier, the song is one of the last that she had written during that Music City visit, smack dab in the middle of a natural burnout moment that resulted in spontaneous creativity, providing a balance of emotion into the overall essence that teeters the edge of tirelessly working hard with wanting to find your space to live a carefree life.
Hitting into the ultra-relatable subject of dealing with the mundane daily grind while yearning for something more, she immediately strikes connection with the listener when she sets the tone in the opening verse by singing about the alarm clock ringing and wanting to pull the covers back up over her head to just stay in bed to dream about a no strings attached kind of life.
With a rhythmic freshness wrapped into the drive of the feel-good melody, the pop of guitars instantly gets you bopping along as she throws caution to the wind in her daydreamed escape, floating her worries away into a joyous embrace of thoughts centered on living life in the moment as she punches the chorus:
“Give me that give me that
Full moon night
Party crowd raising their hands up high
Find a boy, grab his hands
Spinning all night dancing to a street band
Keep on going once they cut the lights
Burning bright, floating free like fireflies
Red dirt kids living like high riders
Renegade hearts tryn’a be sunrisers
Give me that, give me that
Give me that, give me that
Give me that, give me that”
Poignantly stamping in the second verse, “always chasing the me I wanna be in my head,” she tugs hard on the heartstrings of the dreamers who can see the light at the end of the tunnel but are in constant battle with the struggled steps to reach it.
With refreshing flashes of 2010’s era country combining with a dreamy country-pop laden escape, Lily Grace masterfully connects with anyone committed to a plan B while chasing Plan A, providing encouraging optimism in a spotlight shining moment that lets you know you’re not alone.
