MACKENZIE CARPENTER - Only Girl - The Valory Music Co.

With the sassy wittiness of songs such as “Throw You Back” and “Huntin’ Season,” country starlet Mackenzie Carpenter set in motion an uber confident, girl next door feistiness that became the defining characteristic of her opening chapter.

However, an adrenaline kiss of alternative rock grind struck an entirely new aura on “Sound Of A Heartbreak” when she kicked open her second chapter earlier this year, boldly showcasing something completely unexpected while instantly creating a deafening buzz wrapped in an intrigue of what’s next.

Continuing to delve into something freshly different as she turns to page two of this current chapter, she now delivers her first ever love ballad, “Only Girl.”

The song, written by Mackenzie and Micah Carpenter with Mia Mantia and SJ McDonald, meets her hearts flutter head on as she vulnerably allows the listener to peek inside the butterfly emotions that her now-husband has continually given her ever since they first met.

“Don’t get me wrong, I love writing songs about topics all across the map, from heartbreak, to best friends, to a good ole fashion country murder song,” shared Carpenter. “But this one I wrote about a man I’m so thankful to have found, one that truly loves me like I’m the only girl in the whole world. I hope everyone finds someone that makes them feel that way!”

The waltz infused tempo allows her to float her blissfully toned vocal atop the melody as she checkmarks comparative descriptions through each of the verses in efforts to try and explain the unexplainable ways that he makes her feel;  “He fits me like the perfect pair of old blue jeans,” He’s got me memorized, he knows me like those red words,” “He keeps me like a promise, yeah he keeps me safe.”

Through an awestricken, overwhelming joy of her unbelief that this is the love she actually gets to experience every day of her life, Carpenter accents the feelings spread throughout the verses to an even grander level as she moves into the chorus:

“He looks at me like the only star in his sky

He holds me tight like he’ll never say goodbye

I know there’s millions and billions of people

Living in this world

But he loves me like I’m the only girl”

However, it’s the bridge that brings this to an entirely different, and unique level. While love songs of this nature are widespread in country music, by offering gratitude for her answered prayers back to the one who answered them, she humbly places God as the centerpiece of their relationship to give it the solid rock to stand on.

Having used this song in her own personal wedding video, “Only Girl” is clearly designed for the big day, fitting snuggly on your wedding playlist while throwing its hat in the ring as a strong contender to become your first dance selection.
