JOSH TURNER - Down In Georgia - MCA Nashville
To date, Josh Turner has been nominated for two GRAMMY awards, five CMA Awards, two ACM Award, one CMT Award, seven ACA Awards and has received six Inspirational Country Music Awards. With his success now spanning decades, the South Carolina native is set to begin a new career in his musical catalogue with a new album, and to further preview the record, he has released a brand-new track. “Down In Georgia” is available now, both digitally and on all streaming platforms, via MCA Nashville.
Written by Tyler Booth, Anthony Olympia, and Brent Rupard, “Down In Georgia” immediately caught the ear of Turner, who naturally gravitated toward the vibe as well as the tune’s subject matter.
“I think they’ve been reading my mail, because I married a girl from Georgia and we actually moved to Georgia last year,” Turner said.
Musically and personally, Josh is a traditionalist, prioritizing family and fundamental principles in his everyday life, which have always carried over to his music. From the likes of “Why Don’t We Just Dance” and “Long Black Train” to “Firecracker” and “Your Man”, there has always been a unique approach to songwriting and singing for Josh, and those elements have resonated with fans from the beginning. That same sentiment holds true with “Down In Georgia”, which finds Turner right in his wheelhouse and comfort zone – An upbeat, catchy traditional ode to the ones he loves and his way of life.
Paying homage to the south with irresistibly catchy hooks and riffs alongside quick, witty lyrics delivered through his trademark crooning baritone vocal bravado, Turner offers a feel-good vibe to the album’s kickoff track, something we anticipate will resonate throughout the rest of the record. The elements that we have come to know, love, and expect from Turner’s music are all present here – its down-to-earth, simplistic yet creative, and honest. Musically and lyrically, it captures his state of mind, and reflects that of many of his fans, new and old. In a day and age when new and different is often sought after, this track shines in its familiarity, representing what we love about country music.
“Down In Georgia” follows “Heatin’ Things Up”, released in April and will also be featured on the forthcoming record. ‘This Country Music Thing’, Turner’s 10th studio album, produced by longtime producer Kenny Greenbug, is set for release on August 16th. Josh has been touring extensively across the country on his Greatest Hits Tour, which has and will continue to take him coast to coast through the fall.
