CLAY WALKER - I Know She Hung The Moon - Maven Records

Ever since the release of his self-titled debut album in 1993, Clay Walker has made himself a household name amongst classic country music fans.  With four platinum albums and two gold albums, along with 11 chart-topping hits and 40 chart-climbing singles, the Beaumont, TX native is one of the more well-respected artists across fans, critics, and fellow singer-songwriters in the history of the genre.

And now, 31 years after his debut, Walker is back in 2024 with brand new music.  His latest track, “I Know She Hung The Moon”, is available now digitally and on all streaming platforms.

Written by the late Toby Keith and Scotty Emerick, this is a love ballad to its core.  Originally appearing on Toby’s ‘Big Dog Daddy’ record, the tune falls perfectly in line with a common theme of Clay’s music from the beginning of his career through today – the love he has for his wife.  From chart-topping singles to B-side rarities, the songs that collectively encompass Clay’s music catalogue are centered around the love and affection for that special person in one’s life.  His wife is, and always has been, his muse and the lyrics of “I Know She Hung The Moon” illustriously echo those sentiments from start to finish.

“You don’t have to tell me she’s beautiful

You don’t have to say things like one-of-a-kind

You don’t have to wonder if she loves me, man

I know that’s crossed your mind

Seems like everywhere we go

There’s always somebody staring at her

I know she hung the moon

I’m the one that held the ladder”

Produced by Tony Brown, the song is not only an ode to timeless love, but it pays homage to the essence of a classic country song, which is an element that is sometimes lost in today’s multi-genre bending industry.

Walker’s trademark vocal swain takes center stage on this song from the onset, while the effective interludes of steel guitar and acoustic swaying rhythms provide the perfect backdrop of a crooning love story.

Having been first introduced to the song by Toby in 2021, Clay recorded his own version of the ballad this past December.  A fresh approach to the tune while staying true to the original’s roots both honors the legacy of Keith and his music, while also giving the song new life and a chance to resonate with fans, young and old, all over again.
