Ashley Cooke has been on an incredible run since releasing “Sunday Morning Kinda Saturday Night.” She’s already received substantial buzz this summer with her songs “Under” and “Already Drank That Beer,” announced the release of her 8-track EP on August 27, 2021, and she’s been named as Spotify’s Radar Country artist of the month.

To keep this wave of momentum rolling, Ashley Cooke is now releasing “Good Goodbye,” which features Jimmie Allen (“Freedom Was a Highway”) as her duet partner and acts as the final teaser ahead of her forthcoming EP.

This is a break-up song at its core, but instead of going the predictable sappier route that’s full of pain and heartbreak, Cooke flips the script and keeps this light and airy as the melody floats on a breeze and allows her voice (as well as that of Allen’s) to deliver the power pack of soul needed to accompany the saying goodbye lyric.

Cooke laments on the opening verse that they saw this split coming from a mile away. However, as they sit together in the driveway, she ponders whether it will be an ending that leaves them both crying in the dashboard lights or one that has them going inside for one last night together. Likewise, Allen also acknowledges in the second verse that the relationship has reached its inevitable end while pondering the same question as Cooke did in verse number one.

The chorus, however, throws the proverbial curveball into the mix of emotions that they’re experiencing with their pending break-up as they both confess that they’d rather make it a good goodbye; one that has them loving each other one last time.

This lyric presents a very interesting concept that isn’t too often heard, and it leaves you asking whether a friendship can still be had between a male and female in the aftermath of their break-up. But while you’re busy thinking about the answer to that question, Ashley Cooke has just masterfully slid another amazing song at you that has kept you highly anticipating the release of her EP!
