STEPHEN CAREY - RIP - Independent Release

As the new year arrived just two weeks ago, so did our lofty resolutions; Many of which are probably already on the brink of being forgotten, discarded, and moved onto the try again bucket list for next year.

But behind every resolution sits a common theme of wanting to change the life space that we’ve previously resided in by moving into our next chapter with the pieces of the past being left behind as we strive to better ourselves.

Vibey singer-songwriter Stephen Carey has met that aspect of our resolutions head on with his addictively inspiring single, “RIP.”

With a pop infused backbeat connecting his vast array of influences into a modern country blending that instantly provides an ultra-catchy melody, Carey leans into the freeing nature of the lyrics through the sway along chorus to open the song, immediately weaving the plan of his optimistic next chapter while maturely facing the mirror:

“Im’ma let the old me rest in peace

Say goodbye to how things used to be

Cause I’m know that the next chapter for me

I’ll be moving on to bigger better things

RIP to the old me

RIP to the way things used to be

RIP to the old me

RIP to the way things used to be”

With truth laden retrospect in the looking back lamenting of the opening verse, Carey pumps his crisp, honest vocal into a firm understanding of who he used to be, admitting that he used to be scared to speak his truth, that he exuded cool only by being in the wrong place with the wrong crew, etc.

On the back of the eureka thought that we only live once, he slaps through that optimistic chorus while holding the second verse in a moment of triumph derived from his newly found looking forward perspective, singing that he’s done “trying to look back wondering, wishing ‘bout how things would be different” while also accepting what he can’t change and being okay with where he’s at and where he’s heading.

Resolutions come and go every single year, but reachable goals are more than achievable. By transparently embracing who he used to be, who he is today, and where he’s headed tomorrow, “RIP” sees Stephen Carey not only grabbing hold of his goals to be better, but it offers a much needed reminder to all of us that we can unashamedly make the necessary changes to achieve all that we set out to be in the new year.
