MICHAEL RAY - We Should Get A Drink Sometime - Warner Music Nashville

With a Platinum status attached to “Think a Little Less” and “Whiskey And Rain,” Gold certifications on “Kiss You In The Morning,” “One That Got Away,” “Get To You,” and “Her World Or Mine,” over two billion global streams, and 73 appearances on the hallowed stage of the Grand Ole Opry, country music superstar Michael Ray has formed a resume that speaks loudly for itself.

As his latest single “Spirits and Demons” is still actively climbing the charts, he now gifts his fans with “We Should Get A Drink Sometime.”

The ballad, written by Thomas Rhett, Rhett Akins, Mike Busbee and Josh Kerr, relies solely on piano accompaniment which allows Michael to put on a powerful display of emotional vulnerably through his vocal shifts to expertly capture the essence of the lyric as he sings through the feelings of the past that bubble up when you unexpectedly run into the one that got away.

Confessing that he hoped she couldn’t see how much he missed her when they bumped into one another, against his better judgement he then gives into his heart when he asks her to get together and catch up over adult beverages as he slips into the chorus:

“We should get a drink sometime, like old friends do

I can tell you all about my life, you can tell me all about you

Trust me I would understand if you found somebody new

We don’t gotta take all night, but if you think it would be alright

We should get a drink sometime

We should get a drink sometime”

Continuing to admit in the second verse that although he wanted to play it cool if he ever ran into her again, how beautiful she looked in that moment had him completely tongue-tied to the point that he finds himself simply reiterating the only words he could find to say as he rolls back into the chorus.

Though the song had originally been recorded for his Dive Bars & Broken Hearts EP, Michael tells of the decision to release it now, “this song has always been special to me, and it felt like the right time to put it out there. This one is for those of you traveling home for the holidays and reconnecting with those people in your life that you’ve lost touch with, whether you reach out or run into someone you didn’t expect to see.”

Having new music already in the works for 2024, “We Should Get A Drink Sometime” provides a satisfying bridge for his fans who are already clamoring for more, whetting their appetite while furthering the buzz surrounding him and things still to come.
