PEYTON ALDRIDGE - In A Song - PUBA Records

Where many who come off the hit television program The Voice will naturally struggle to find who they are and what they want their music to represent, Peyton Aldridge is proving to be an anomaly as he swerves the typical standard with a tremendous body of work that’s offered a stark vision into who he is as a songwriter and artist.

Having already released seven songs since his time on the show, including recent favorites “One More Night With You” and “Friend With A Beer,” Aldridge has flavored his catalog with a melding of his soulful Mississippi roots, a dash of country aura, and a helping of a singer-songwriter vibe, giving him a uniquely driven sound that resonates a raw truth as it pulls the listener into each lyrical turn and gifted melody.

Something he’s doing once again on his latest offering, “In A Song.”

We hear all the time how music is a healer like no other, giving us the okay to cry, to laugh, to mend broken fences, and to get eerily still within our own conflicts to reflect on them and find their resolve.

This idea is the focused depth from Aldridge on this song, wrapping his soul-filled voice into the soft paced melody to carry the heart of the lyrics through each of the two verses as he first touches on music role in love’s heartbreak as well as its unbridled passion, while then digging into its effect on specific moments in the second verse; “My dad and I made peace playing chords on this guitar,”I have felt the pride of the freedom I’ve been given by a hero’s sacrifice,” etc.

Striking the punch of the humbly grateful lyrics through the chorus, Aldridge lifts the melody to allow each word to carry the weight of their load as he exposes how much music has guided his personal emotions:

"In a song

I have loved and I have laughed and I have cried

Come face to face with demons I had nowhere left to hide

I felt the truth wash over me like waves upon the tide

In a song”

With the songwriter’s song having already taken us deep into our memory box at this point by spelling out the many different ways that the power of a song can shape each of life’s ups and downs, he completely stops the show when he reaches the revelation that there’s so much more to a song then just words and melody, raising to a thought-provokingly level when he ponders, “Maybe that’s the way God talks to you and me.”

As Peyton Aldridge continues to reveal more and more pieces of his overall puzzle, his ability to consistently craft a lyric that tugs heartstrings while smashing it against a melody that holds the feel of his vocal so snuggly have become the signatures that keep everyone talking about him and his music. And though he stunningly quiets us with that very strong line mentioned above in the immediate moment, there’s no doubt that you’ll be adding this tune to your playlists and sharing it with everyone you know who needs a boost to their spirit.
