TRAVIS TRITT
"Like The Father Loves His Son"

Country superstar Travis Tritt’s list of accolades runs miles long and includes a whopping 30 million+ albums sold, over 40 charted singles, 5 #1 songs, two Grammy Awards, and four CMA Awards. While many others call that a career well done and coast on those achievements from there on out, 2023 has seen the iconic artist not slowing down at all, but rather digging into some pet projects that his fans have been clamoring for.
His Proud of the Country album brought us back in time as he revisited the honky-tonk branded collection of songs that earned him his first ever record deal, and next month (September 15, 2023) will see him embracing his Sunday morning roots with the release of his first ever Gospel project, Country Chapel; a request from his biggest fan…his mother!
Having already hyped the buzz on this exciting new project with last month’s "When God Dips His Love in My Heart," he now continues teasing the album with “Like The Father Loves His Son.”
With touches of a Baptist choir’s outpouring wrapping around distinctive signature flares that tell you this is Travis Tritt through its instrumentation, the lyrics pull idea from Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
“Prayed a prayer last night to heaven” he sings to open the song, and then immediately takes the listener into his moment of pain and feeling lost as he unveils that he is sad and lonely, has no one left to talk to, and that his eyes are filled with tears.
Playing off a teaching I’ve personally long carried within me that we’re already saved, as is evident by the cross, but that it’s up to us to seek Him out, Tritt does just that at this low point of his life like so many of us often do. And as He always does…God answers!
“He said my child I will forgive you
You know that’s why I bled and died
I know the struggles you’ve been facing
And all the pain you’re feeling inside
And I know you’re truly sorry
For the wrong things that you’ve done
Just remember child, I love you
Like the Father loves his Son”
Jesus being just like Jesus always is, though, took His opportunity in this moment to not only forgive, but to then educate the truth through His explanation of how He gave His life to save us, leaving Tritt with blessed assurance that he doesn’t have to feel lost or forgotten going forward from this moment.
The song in and of itself is great piece with a message that so many of us need to hear and remember in our own lives today, but when you consider the fact that Travis wrote this back when he was only a teenager, there’s a aura of pure truth and complete transparency that shines in his seeking of knowing God on a deeper level and a wonderment in understanding redemption at the feet of Jesus.
