It’s a simple fact of life that from time to time we all struggle with something. Whether it's only momentarily or something heavy that weighs us down for years, life always presents unique challenges that can get us turned around.

Hot rising songstress J. Antonette, known for her flawless blending of pop ideals and country fusions while transparently taking her real-life situations and crafting them into song, softens the edge of a very tough topic with an addictively vibey melody on her newest release, “Saved.”

The song, which she co-wrote with Sherrill Allen and Paige Davis, stares at the face of her own battle with self-worth and depression from a few years ago while skillfully using that down moment as a how-to steppingstone to promote overcoming a mental health situation.

The drive of the melody perfectly matches the idea wrapped into the lyrics of embracing who you are to find your own self-worth and arrive at a state of mind that’s laden with the confidence that sets you free to be exactly who you were created to be.

The rhythmic sway instantly offers a feel of freedom as she shares pieces of her story in each of the verses, admitting that she’s woken up on the wrong side of confidence, felt like the empty part of the half full glass, and that the rumors spread about her around town have certainly weighed her down.

By crafting the lyrics of the verses in this dynamic way, J. Antonette has welcomed anyone struggling with a similar situation into the truth factor that they aren’t alone in this fight, expertly offering them a shoulder to lean on.

However, as any good friend should, she doesn’t just allow you to stay in that place of struggle right there on her shoulder without showing you a path to quieting the noise that brought you into that negative state of mind.

By stamping her foot down in the bridge to sing directly at her perpetrator, “save your breath I don’t need your help,” she overcomes the grip he had on her well-being to make the power of the lyrics in the ultra-catchy chorus leap through the speakers and strike your heart as she fully embraces who she is, dents and all, igniting the fire within you to do the same as you begin to sing along with a smile on your face and accept who you are while taking the next steps forward on your own path:

“I’m a mixed up contradiction

I’m a sinner and a saint

A rollercoaster of emotions

I’m a bitch on my bad days

A steady work in progress

Not perfect but I’m honest

I like me this way

So, quit you’re preaching

Who you trying to save?”
