Grindstone Records recording artist Cody Cozz burst onto the country music scene in 2022, releasing three very well-received singles since last summer: “On My Way,” “Right On Time,” and “Wanna Be That Guy.”

He’s continually embraced his sound, enhanced his signature feels, and has delivered one strong effort after another to boldly introduce himself as a buzzworthy artist who walks the line between country music’s most traditional attributes with a slight kick of modern edged flare.

He now returns with his new single, “I’m Just A Country Song,” written and produced by Craig Campbell.

Holding the perspective of a country song and the impact that it has on the many moods of life, Cozz narrates through list like fashion in the opening verse by telling of how a good song is your beer drinking buddy, your trip down memory lane, and the remedy for your broken heart.

Highlighting then the specific sounds that become the birthplace for an idea to an old country song, he expertly leans into traditional based instrumentation that fluidly wraps around his rich drawl as he reveals that one gets its rhythm from a rumbling freight train and finds its melody in a Baptist choir.

However, the true resonating factor arrives in the second half when Cozz strikes the right chords by highlighting exactly who these types of songs are made for, connecting strongly with the country music faithful as he explains:

“I’m the voice of the people on backroads

Ringing out all across this land

Give me three minutes and I’ll tell you all I know

Bout the dreams of the working man

Close your eyes and I’ll take your heart back home

I’m just a country song”

With a hot jumpstart that now includes four single releases, Cody Cozz is making a name for himself by fusing the gap with one foot firmly planted on yesteryear and the other stamped down on the here and now, providing a left of the dial, roots based sound that’s built to attract the neo-traditionalists who are clamoring for something a little different than what they’re getting from the current mainstream Top 40.
