Multi-genre hitmaker Uncle Kracker is back with a brand-new tune.  The independently-released “Sweet 16” is available now on all streaming platforms.

The tune is the first we have heard from him since the pandemic, and promises to be another fan favorite.  Written by Matthew Shafer (aka Kracker himself) along with Marlon Young, Frederick L. Beauregard, and Herschel Boone, the tune uses all the trademark elements of the singer-songwriter’s music that has made him a household name over the years.

Ever since the release of his major label debut, ‘Double Wide’, in 2000, Uncle Kracker has found his niche within the music world, whether in pop, country or anywhere else.  The relatability of his lyrics and the undeniable infectious melodies of his music resonate with fans of all ages, backgrounds, and tastes.  That trend continues with “Sweet 16”, which is an uplifting track that toe-taps its way into the ears and minds of its listeners immediately.

“’Sweet 16’ is all American,” he said.  “It’s a song for anybody lucky enough to make it outta their teens, 20’s, and 30’s…’Sweet 16’ is a recap.  It’s hands down the most relevant song I’ve ever done”.

Ironically, the inspiration for the track was divorce.  But rather than focusing on a relationship that doesn’t end, the attention for this tune was turned to how love and loyalty can lead to an eternal bond between to people, withstanding the test of time and all of life’s obstacles.  It’s a tale of hope and of celebration of how two people can have a “happily-ever-after” fairytale ending as long as their love is strong, their devotion to one another is true, and they are willing to work at making each other happy.

“And now sweet 16’s 34

We traded in a drop top hot rod Chevy

For a 4-door Ford

And those sweet memories are forevermore

A lot of things changed but I love it just the same

Or even more than I did before”

The lyrics are clever yet simple, and the riffs, beats, and melodies are ear-pleasing and predictably delightful from start to finish.  His vocals are trademark Kracker, which is one of the elements fans first fell in love with over two decades ago.  It has been far too long since we’ve heard new music from this talented singer-songwriter, and we are hoping this is the first of many fresh cuts we are going to be treated to in the coming months.

After a slew of special event appearances in early July, Kracker will be enjoying time on the road this summer on the ZZ Top & Lynyrd Skynyrd co-headlining “The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour” across the country through mid-September.
