Momentum and anticipation continue to build surrounding ‘Dive Bars & Broken Hearts’, the new six-song EP from Michael Ray, due out on June 23rd via Warner Music Nashville.  His latest tune, “Workin’ On It”, is available on all streaming platforms now.

Serving as another preview of his upcoming collection of new music, “Workin’ On It” introduces us to a continued new side of Michael Ray – the progressive, matured songwriter that is looking at the world around him, but also at himself, as he puts pen to paper.

Seeing every moment as an opportunity to grow, mature, and improve oneself, is something may people strive for, but at times, is difficult to attain.  There are always tasks to do and responsibilities to own, but the most important project to work on is yourself.

“It’s the idea that old cars need pieces”, Ray says about the song.  “But maybe the biggest project of all is…me.  And that’s great.  Knowing you’re always gonna try to be better, but, you know, also finding the fun in that.  Isn’t that what life is all about?”

This song is deliciously and refreshingly catchy….an easy toe-tapper that will have the listener singing along.  It’s an assurance of self-awareness and acknowledgement of one’s flaws, but also the realization that it is OK not to be perfect.  No one is flawless, and the best we can do is try to improve ourselves a little at time, while enjoying the rollercoaster that is life along the way.

Ray’s vocals are spot on here, and the melody is perfectly crafted to hone in on the song’s subject matter and the upbeat, motivating nature of the lyrical resolution.

“Workin’ all night lettin’ my pride turn into regret

All of my heart ain’t on my sleeve yet

I ain’t the man I wanna be yet

But I’m workin’ on it”

“Workin’ On It” follows “Ger Her Back”, his first new music since his ‘Higher Education’ EP from 2021.

Ray has charted four No. 1 singles to date, has passed the 1 billion mark in global streams and 150 million Youtube views.  His hits include “Think A Little Less”, “Kiss You In The Morning”, and “One That Got Away”, and still, it seems this singer-songwriter has only scratched the surface of what he is capable of accomplishing in his career.

Fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch Ray in concert, as he has dates scattered across the country through the summer and into the fall from coast to coast.
