Back in February when country superstar Jason Aldean announced via his social media platforms that he was in the recording studio and starting work on his eleventh album, he instantly elevated the hype from his exuberant fan base as they held to the promise of new music coming soon.

Just a few short months later, and he’s now delivered the first glimpse into what he’s been working on with “Tough Crowd.”

The song, written by Kurt Allison, Marv Green, Tully Kennedy, Kelley Lovelace, and Neil Thrasher, appropriately praises the fans who he sees night in and night from his on-stage perspective, tipping his cowboy hat to them in a nod of appreciation.

Similar to 2016’s “Lights Come On,” Jason transports us straight to a concert setting with crowd noise pumping through the intro as the guitars splice into a natural rock kissed country tonality, adding the proper edge that’s become the signature grit as he then uses each of the verses in list like fashion to descriptively highlight the wide range of fans who stand in front of the stage, supportively singing along with him every night:

“I see girls with tattoos”

“Good ol’ boys in cowboy hats”

“I see a few soldiers here tonight”

“Some country ass beer drinkin’, hell raisin’, go all nighters”

“Hard working nine to fivers”

However, after giving you this full scope view of his diverse fanbase, at the heart of the song sits the chorus where he opens up on the amped effect that seeing their excitement has on him as he hits into a sway along with anthem style, singing:

“Talk about a tough crowd

Make ya wanna turn it up loud

Raise the roof tonight

Make the red, white, and blue proud

Yeah, here’s to the country strong

I wish y’all could see y’all now

Talk about a tough crowd

My kinda tough crowd"

While this song is our first look at the newest batch of material from the ACM nominee for Entertainer of the Year, it’s also a heartfelt thank you to his loyal fans and a very strong preview of what could very well be the opening song on his upcoming 'Highway Desperado Tour.'
