While his singles “Whiskey’s Fine” and “Famous” jumpstarted his career and instantly placed all eyes on him, Adam Doleac elevated to incredible new heights last year with the release of his highly anticipated debut studio album Barstool Whisky Wonderland; featuring breakout smashes “Drinkin’ It Wrong” and “Somewhere Cool With You,” as well as fan favorites “Another” and “Don’t It Sound Alright.”

For the past 6 months, though, Doleac has been whetting the appetite of his exuberant fan base on his social media platforms, teasing snippets of a very well-received new song, “Wrong Side of a Sunrise”; a song which he’s now officially released.

Leaning into an ultra-modern, midtempo melody that pulls heavy influence from the pop side of country, its insatiable backbeat instantly gets your hips popping and allows Doleac to slide his crisp, boy next door vocal into the morning after feelings of an already gone one-night stand.

She tried to tell me she ain’t the type to stick around…she tried to save me from what I’m feeling right now,” are the two lines that open the song and immediately highlight that she absolutely tried to offer him clear-cut warning signs while he was lusting over her; all which he promptly proceeded to ignore.

His decision to overlook these signs would lead to his eventual heartbreak the next morning as she proved herself right by not even being there when he woke up, leaving him with strained emotional feeling that he craftily paints through the chorus:

“I woke up on the wrong side of a sunrise

She disappeared like a heartbreaking thief in the dark

She had me falling in that Alabama moonlight

But I closed my eyes and she slipped right out of my arms

No her in my t-shirt

No morning kiss goodbye

I woke up on the wrong side of a sunrise”

However, what’s so great about this song is how the tone of it never really comes across as him being bitter or full of regret like so many songs of this theme carry, but rather it sees him admitting his own fault in the situation as he looks back fondly on their night together, singing lines such as, “she left me dreaming about a night I won’t forget.”

With his ever-growing fan base and extremely gifted knack for crafting a song that is both infectiously ear catching and has something unique to say, Adam Doleac might still be riding the momentum wave that his album set in motion, but he also clearly has one foot already firmly planted on his next chapter.
