With her fun, upbeat songs such as “Stop Draggin’ Your Boots” and recent single “A Special Place,”  Danielle Bradbery gets you up and dancing with insatiable melodies as her crisp, clean voice wraps into anathematic lyrics that keep you singing along.

But as she’s proven throughout her career, when she slows the pace and taps into her most vulnerable pieces, she shines under an even brighter light that allows the raw honesty in the waver of her voice to perfectly encapsulate the power of a song.

Her newest release, “Monster,” co-written by Danielle with Lauren LaRue and Sam De Jong, sees her pulling from the middle of her own struggles with anxiety to deliver an open letter to the worried emotion that’s gripping her.

The cleverly crafted lyrics describe the gamut of ups and downs that arrive through anxiousness, where you carry the weight of two different personalities throughout the immediate struggle, living with a “monster” on your back that keeps pushing you down.

Exhaustedly trying to fight it, Bradbery sings very strong lines in each of the verses, such as “I’m scared of waking up with you again” and “I swear that I’m your favorite victim,” landing on the chorus where she comparatively laments that the monster of weight it’s creating on her doesn’t sleep under her bed but is right there in it with her.

Though there’s a tired hush in her voice around the piano laden melody, you can metaphorically hear her shouting through her battles to expertly elevate this incredible snapshot of emotions as she sings, “You won’t leave and you’re so unhealthy,” “You’re breakin’ me, messin’ with my head,” and “you turn me into someone I can’t stand,” before boldly stamping an exclamation point of freeing frustration when she scolds, “how dare you steal my peace!”

Danielle Bradbery has already stated how much this song means to her, and whenever an artist can tackle a very tough subject matter and pull inspiration from within themselves, they create a substantial piece of therapy that reaches through the speakers as a warm embrace to let those who are suffering in the same ways clearly know that they aren’t alone in their fight.
