Though Stephanie Ryann had really started carving out her niche over the past year with songs such as “Over You,” “Broken Heart,” and “Never Enough,” the release of “About Me” injected her overall clean feel with an intriguing grit that gave her a natural edge within her vocals to carry the punch of the lyrics with the proper amount of fuel to bring them to life and keep you listening on repeat.

She now continues to dive deeper into that grittier side with her brand new single “Wild Thing.”

The song, co-written by Stephanie, Tim Comeaux, Dana Snyder, and Michael Reuger, instantly attracts your ear with an unapologetic swampiness through its intro as the guitar lick slowly builds into the western kissed, modern country vibe.

Singing of a hometown girl, presumably from a small-town that no one ever really leaves, Ryann brings us through the tale of the one who spreads her wings and flies out past the county lines to live her own life and see what the rest of the world has to offer.

Her vocal carries a deeper drawled tilt to it at times to add an addictive flavor as she impressively punches through the chorus, perfectly describing our main characters attributes:

“She’s a wildfire burning, she’s a runaway train

Free like a Bronco with no reins

She’s a wild card, reckless heart, shoot you straight, worth the wait

Rebel with angel wings

When you know her like I do, you know it’s true

You can’t tame a wild thing

You can’t tame a wild thing”

Continuing to put the main characters personality traits well on display, she sings in the second verse of how she prefers smoke rings to diamonds, lives for this moment and not for tomorrow, and how if she makes it to heaven, she’ll be giving ‘em some hell; something she further stamps in the bridge when she sings, “She’s 1/5th holy water, and 4/5’s Jack on ice.”

The guitar shreds through the bridge lace a big feel into the melody, while the break down into the final chorus allows Ryann a platform to spotlight her incredible vocal as they soar in front of very little instrumentation.

But it’s the sly grin and knowing wink you feel through Stephanie’s voice that makes you get the feeling that much of this song comes from an autobiographical place, therefore acting as a great introduction to who she is and where she comes from, aptly connecting personality with the heart of the listener as she continues to unravel this new chapter of her music.
