Hot rising country starlet, and one of CMT’s 2023 Next Women of Country, Catie Offerman has paved her path in precise, buzzworthy ways by offering us a very well-rounded look at who she is and what she brings to the table over her first couple of teasers of her forthcoming major label debut.

Where “Get A Dog” offered a summertime rhythm with memorable tongue and cheek lyrics, “’Til I See You Again” dove into more of a pop and country fusion that had us swaying along with her as she bopped through the ultra-catchy chorus.

She now returns with the brand-new song, “I Just Killed A Man,” unveiling her poetic, softer side with a 1,2  beat in its melody and an amazingly crafted lyric that absolutely stops you and makes you intently listen to each and every word she gut punches with.

Rarely do we get a song that puts the heartbreaking focus of lost love on the toll that it takes on the one who did the breaking of hearts, but that’s exactly where we find Offerman.

The song, co-written by Catie with Ryan Beaver, Joe Clemmons, Jessie Jo Dillon, and Benjy Davis, sees her uniquely looking from a reflective perspective at the broken heart she caused while comparing it to a murderous crime scene as she dives deeply into the emotional tugs of her voice through the confessional lyric.

Admitting that someone had to end it because it just wasn’t the right fit, she wraps a slight tinge of regret and guilt into amazing lines that perfectly speak straight to the hurt and pain she’s feeling after “committing the crime,” singing lines throughout the song:

“Tonight's just whiskey and guilt on the rocks”

“Just because it ain't a crime, don’t mean I won't be doin' time”

“I got in my car made my getaway, couldn't stop the tears runnin' down my face”

“His heart breaks on my hands, I just killed a man.”

With the distinctive, core signature always being placed on her incredibly gifted vocal prowess, Offerman absolutely raises the bar with the delivery that she wraps into these lyrics, striking all the right chords to capture the gamut of emotions that arrive in a situation like the one she’s focused on here lyrically.

Combining the power of her voice and lyrics with the absolute know-how of crafting the right mood through the instrumentation behind them, are the strong elements that not only lift her songwriting abilities to the forefront, but louden the noise that’s already surrounding the release of her upcoming album that much more!
