Every so often we’ll walk into a venue for coverage of a show a little bit early and are blessed with what we get to experience from the artist who happens to be on stage when we get there. That’s exactly what happened one night when we walked into The Basement in Nashville and caught most of Waytt Flores’ rip-roaring set that had the packed house singing every single word with him.

A deep dive into his catalog after that night, and we’ve been clamoring for more music from him ever since, which has now arrived with his brand-new release, “Ain’t Proud.”

Perfectly capturing the feel-good energy and overall essence of his live show, the toe-tapping honky-tonk branded song sees Flores pouring the raw honesty of his voice into the lyrics as he reminisces on some of the questionable things that he does and is not necessarily proud of, such as flipping his truck into a ditch, not sleeping in a week, and getting sick in the backseat of his friends borrowed car.

Relenting that he knows he’s handful, he then flips the script and takes you straight into the venue with him that night as he gratefully looks out from the stage, admitting that it’s a miracle that he’s even made it there tonight, as he thankfully resonates the sing along vibe with his fans through lines such as:

“All the things I’ve done I ain’t proud of

Makes me damn proud I’m here with you tonight”

“You all look like angels all dressed up and beautiful

You may not know my name, but I’m damn sure glad you came”

With such a strong nod to the live crowd built into the lyrics, “Ain’t Proud” provides Flores with the perfect song to open his shows so he can get the audience amped right out the gate with an energetic exuberance that embraces the Texas country ideals on the importance of fueling live shows with memorable twists and turns that bring everyone into being part of the show and not just a number in the crowd.

There’s absolutely no question about it, Wyatt Flores is well on his way to superstardom on the country music circuit as he continues to tour on high-profile dates, play major festivals, and build an incredible grassroot following of fans and industry reps alike.

“Ain’t Proud” is a very good example as to why his star is shining! His uncanny ability to weave his own stories through a sorry not sorry shrug of his shoulders while wearing a sly smile on his face, immediately draws the audience as they start to pull from their own memory banks to remember their recklessly youthful decisions; aptly connecting his stories to theirs through an ultra-personal touch.
