Hayden Coffman has struck right with the blue-collar crowd while solidifying his country boy cred through several anthem driven songs within his catalog, including “Better Off,” “Our Kind,” and “Give A Country Boy A Call.”

However, within his ultra-modern style that borrows elements of pop production and smashes them into country ideals, Coffman has also showcased his more tenderhearted side on songs such as “Where’s The Whiskey” and “Lose Somebody You Love.”

His brand new single “Take The Lonely” sees him tapping into the heartbreak side of his arsenal while skillfully positioning the song against his signature mid-tempo flavor, bringing together a modern mainstream fusion with moody instrumentation and production that allows him to pour the proper emotional tilt into his vocals while using the sum of all its parts to uphold the depth of the lyric.

Admitting in the opening verse that while he’s been the one who’s done the leaving and breaking of hearts in the past, he then quickly flips the script into his own current heartbreak as the shoe is on the other foot now, confessing that it hits a little differently as he embraces his lonely struggle.

Pleading with his ex, he runs through a list of everything she can take with her as he punches the chorus, lamenting that she could have it all if she takes the lonely away from him, too:

“I’ll take the good times

You take the broken down

And I’ll take the getting’ by

You take the memories out of every frame

I’ll say it’s my fault, and I’ll take all the blame

You can have the house and the keys to my car

You can even have the half of my broke heart

You can have everything that you want

And I’ll take nothing with me

As long as you take the lonely”

Continuing to take us straight into his hurt, he unravels a list through the second verse of more of the things she can have, everything from the shirt of his back, to his boots, guitar, and the diamond ring; that last one adding a very interesting bump to the scenario and a much deeper dynamic to the song when we realize that this was much more than a girlfriend walking away, but someone he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

We’ve all been heartbroken a time or two, which instantly helps “Take The Lonely” impact Coffman’s growing fan base with an extreme connectibilty factor. However, while this type of theme is commonplace in country music, it’s that intriguing dynamic inserted through “the diamond ring” line that really elevates this to new heights and seals the deal as another very strong showing from one of the most gifted independent acts on the circuit today.
