Emily Roth made a breakout splash on the country music scene just over a year ago with her debut single “Meet Me In Tennessee,” garnering a fair amount of acclaim as she continued to wow audiences with well-received performances while further honing her songwriting craft.

Though Knoxville born, and now calling Nashville home, Roth was proudly raised in North Carolina and that coastal vibe shines through on her newest single, “Lightning.”

The pure bop laced through the instrumentation leans on an ultra-catchy, float on the breeze mid-tempo melody that surrounds Emily’s crisp, clean vocal, allowing her to pull you into the summertime, lusting in love lyric that utilizes picture painting imagery to set in motion the flirtatious ways that he could show her that his heart is fluttering in the same ways as hers; singing through each of the verses:

“He could take me for a Sunday drive on that East Coast side”

“He could take me down to Wrightsville Beach, hit the bars and we’d be singing a Chase Rice song.”

“He could take me to his mamas house, take the long way around”

“He could take me to a secret spot, we could just get lost”

By skillfully pushing into the first chorus on the back of the line, “but I can tell that you wanna stay up all night,” Roth opens the door to laying it all out on the table over a sway along rhythm, poking impatiently at his stalling while instigating that they ignite the spark between them:

“Long til the sun start shining

The salt in the airs got my hair all wild

You’re looking for a reason, I’m tryin’ not to find it find it

The moon and the stars have already collided

I’m falling for ya boy, I’m trying not to fight it

You’re looking for spark, well come on, let’s light it

Like lightning”

The Nashville music scene runs deep with talent, so the best way for a newer songwriter/artist to really stand out is to grab hold of what they know best, thread a relatable story into it, and then deliver it in a three-minute package that quickly entices the listeners ears while invoking their own memories.

Emily Roth has absolutely achieved that with “Lightning” as she opens her next chapter by taking a big step forward from where she was toward where she’s headed next.
