BOOMTOWN SAINTS
"Blacktop Don't"
8 Track Entertainment
Though they had already been pounding the pavement and building a strong grassroot following when their debut single “All Trucks Go To Heaven” hit radio airwaves and impacted charts, BoomTown Saints were catapulted into the mainstream and quickly turned heads.
With their fans clamoring for more, they then delivered the very well-received grat track, “Dive Bar Heart,” satisfying their itch while skillfully keeping the media on high alert until their next proper radio single had officially arrived.
As next level success is now staring them squarely in the eye, they’re ready to climb to nationwide recognition on the back of their brand-new single, “Blacktop Don’t.”
The song, co-written by Michael Tyler, Hunter Phelps, and Ben Johnson, captures the energetic vibe that BoomTown Saints bring to the stage within the first 5 seconds as the start and stop fueled energy wraps into the drip of the guitar over the blending of the duo’s voices while they sing, “My baby wanna go where the blacktop don’t,” before everything slaps and gets you moving in the pocket of the mud-stomping, summer edged groove.
Describing the country cutie that has his heart bumping, picture painting lyrics place a clear visual of her in our heads, speaking first to the way she looks in this two of them together moment in his truck as wearing his throwback Braves baseball cap, a tank top, and Daisy Duke cut Levi’s.
However, providing depth to her overall character, she’s also cleverly described through her attitude as being sweet like Alabama and having a heart like Louisiana, before we’re run through a list of her country girl attributes that include her having a heartland drawl, a get you in trouble smile, and liking country music on the radio.
In other words, as they sing out of the opening verse and into the punch of the chorus, “She ain’t tryin’ to hang downtown” because:
“My baby wanna go where the blacktop don’t
Kick a little gravel ‘til we’re all alone
Slow roll roll down like the mighty Mississippi
Driving kinda crooked cause she lookin’ so pretty
Can’t get enough, I can’t say no
When my baby wanna go where the blacktop don’t!”
The instrumental step back through the breakdown into the final chorus injects the song with the insatiable splash that will easily pull the crowd into a memorable audience participation moment during their shows, while the blending of Chris Ramos and Ben Chism’s voices further stamp the signature characteristic that has made them one of the most exciting new duos in country music.
The expectation was certainly high for this release, and BoomTown Saints have exceeded the anticipation to give us the song that will propel them forward with major strides!
