While there isn’t any real formula to making it in country music, releasing single after single that turns heads and creates a substantial buzz is always a great starting point.

That’s exactly what Warner Nashville duo Walker County (Ivy Dene and Sophie Dawn Walker) has done with their releases, “Shovel,” “Someone’s Someone,” and “Drag It Out.”

Though originally given to us back in January, their up-tempo “Bits & Pieces” is officially headed to radio this summer (2021); And that makes perfect sense as it leans on a lighter, summertime vibe that keeps you bopping along with the pop country feel while using the chorus to get your arms swaying in the air as you’re singing along.

Lyrically, this song is super relatable as it focuses on one of those nights where you drink a little too much and end up meeting someone and connecting with them, but it more specifically is looking at it all from the day after perspective where you can only remember the bits and pieces of the night before.

The opening lines instantly connect with the audience as we’ve all said these famous words before, “Said I wasn’t gonna drink…said I was gonna stay.” However, as soon as we hit the first pre-chorus, we’re shifted into the day after where it’s confessed, “my head’s killin’ me, but you’re on my mind.”

This line in the pre-chorus sets the tone for the rest of the song as it weaves us through what bits and pieces she remembers from the night before: “glass bottles and a backyard show; cheap tequila with my dancin’ clothes,” “I remember your eyes, blue; the denim jacket you had on,” “standin’ in the driveway, kissin’ your face,” Etc..

A flirty, crushin’ song always goes over well with the listener demographic that radio aims for, so I suspect that “Bits & Pieces” will hit the Top 40 (sooner than later) and introduce Walker County to the wider audience that will start them down the road to becoming a strong contender for next big duo out of Nashville.
