With 2023 already off to a hot start for Becca Bowen with the release of the very well-received music video for her fan-favorite, “Glitter,” the outdoorsy Southern Belle who is affectionately called “Country Barbie” by her exuberant fanbase has continued to capitalize on a stellar 2022 while expertly hyping the buzz surrounding her brand-new single “Son of a Gun.”

The up-tempo, 90’s country flare smashes into a modern kissed funk driven bop that unapologetically sees Becca leaning into an incredible amount of confident sass throughout the kiss-off lyric as she fully embraces the better life that she’s now living because her ex is out of the picture; even as he’s trying to crawl his way back in after doing her wrong.

Confronting his attitude problem through the opening verse, she sings with a spitfire style wrapped into her voice, “it’s no secret you’re a liar, use me for your own game to feed your fire,” before hitting the chorus with an “I know better than to let you back in” swagger filled punch:

“You can crawl back tomorrow

With puppy dog eyes and hat in hand

You say that things have changed

But everything stays the same

You’re a no good, two-timin’ redneck

Son of a gun”

Declaring the song with an anthem like factor for moving on, Bowen utilizes the second verse to further enhance that she’s better off now more than ever, excitedly singing “I’m living my own life today!”

When an artist pulls from their own personal experiences, the song always naturally envelopes a truth factor that makes it radiate through the speakers and connect with listeners on a monumental level who are expiring the same emotions and feelings.

Bowen carries that honest edge through “Son of a Gun,” using it as a bold reminder for those experiencing heartbreak, telling them it’s okay to move on, and more importantly, that it’s perfectly fine to find yourself again as you step forward into your new chapter after coming out of a toxic relationship that saw you losing yourself.
