TEDDY ROBB
"Stay Single"
Independent Release
Though “Heaven On Dirt” first put him on country music’s map and has since impressively gained over 110 million collective streams, when Teddy Robb independently released “Pretty Things” late last year, his status level increased another notch and earned him highly praised acclaim for his crisp, storytelling style and amazing ability to wrap his voice around heartfelt lyrics.
He now returns with his newest release, “Stay Single.”
Written by Teddy with Pete Good, James McNair and Brandon Ratcliff, 3/4 of the writing team on “Heaven On Dirt,” the idea of the song came to Robb after he had just gotten out of a relationship that wasn’t working out. However, rather than being down in the dumps about it, he’s said that he felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders and that everything was going to work out okay if he just stays single.
Happily embracing his newfound status, he runs through a convincing list of simple reasons why he’s okay with it, including having a downtown condo, a clean shirt, and a fresh haircut. The second verse then offers encouragement that naturally comes from his buddies as to why he needs to keep his bachelor status, freedom, golf tee times, and whiskey swigs on weeknights.
But inevitably, as life so often does, staying single was only a great headspace in theory because when he least expected it, love found him as he fully displays in the chorus:
“Then you come walkin’ in, start talkin’
Then I’m fallin’ in, and baby I’m on fire
You go takin’ me and breakin’ me
And can’t you see you’re making me a liar
Whoa oh oh when you look at me that way
Ain’t no way I’m gonna stay single”
The perfection of his songwriting prowess arrives, though, when he strikes into the finale of the song and advances this love story to the next level when he brings her home to meet his mama after she’s already told him not to do so unless she’s the one… a heartwarming signal that she absolutely is!
The mid-tempo pace and singer-songwriter vibed style allows the naturally gifted rawness of Robb’s vocal to once again masterfully wrap into the heartfelt lyrics and carry emotions in tonality that hold strong to his giddy disbelief that he’s falling in love when he thought he was so content without it.
“Pretty Things” and “Stay Single” are just the tips of the iceberg for what 2023 has in store for the ultra-talented singer-songwriter, who is currently working on plenty of new music still to come.
