2022 has really been a year of honing in on, and experimenting within, the pop laden country inspired sound that we’ve come to know from Madeline Consoer since we first met her during her run on season 19 of The Voice.

Her last couple releases – “Summer Forever,” “How Do I Not.” and “Wish It Away” – have given us a gamut of pop grooved tempos including a summery vibe, a softer heart-tugging feel, and a straight-ahead bop along, while also leaning into production tricks that dropped different depths into the song to enhance specific, defining moments within them.

Her brand-new single “Little Miss,” the latest tease of her forthcoming EP of the same name, swerves away from any expectation we might have had to offer an unapologetic, fiery revenge song, that while it embraces her pop tendencies and modern country influences, also turns the rock kissed edge to eleven to perfectly hammer home the frustration of the lyrics.

Written by Consoer with Chase McDaniel and Jerry Jacobs, the energy fueled tune immediately grips your attention and perks your ears through its catchy guitar riffs that shred through the intro and punch into the verse on the back of a sassy, snarky spite that Madeleine has described as her first “diss track.”

Standing toe-to-toe with the two-faced friend who’s now spreading vicious rumors and lies about her, Consoer vents through the first verse that the former friend has been testing her nerves, twisting her words like a politician, and running her mouth a little too much.

The vocal shift in tone into her deeper register through each of the two pre-choruses adds a dynamic flare as she warns, “You don't want me on your level” and “all I'm saying is be careful”; something she further reiterates in the bridge as she continues with her warnings, “Wait 'til they hear the truth,” indicating that she has some dirt on her former friend as well.

While the chorus flat-out calls her out as being two-faced and dares her to come and say it to her face if she’s got a problem with her, the second verse really becomes her bold call to action as Consoer sings of what’s going to happen next:

“I'll run you out of this town

Girl, you better keep count 'cause your days are numbered”

Intricate rhythmic switches between verse, pre chorus, and chorus, give a very intriguing feel to this song through its instrumental movements that keeps you purely invested into the punch of each word as Consoer expertly spews them out with the right amount of angsty feistiness that perfectly embodies the “I’m sick of your BS” lyrics on this scream along song that is perfect for rolling down the windows and cranking up loud.
