KATRINA BURGOYNE
"We Had Fun"
Independent Release
Being an independent artist who’s trying to navigate the tough country music scene can see its share of extreme highs and extreme lows, but perseverance is key. This treacherous terrain is something that Katrina Burgoyne knows all too well.
Her breakout single “Tennessee” struck the right chord, putting her name on the map in her homeland of Australia as well as here in the states, but her amazing last single “I Wanna Get Away With You,” saw her fall right back into the thick of the grind as she worked tirelessly for every piece of press and airplay she could receive on it.
Regrouping after that slight turn off the main path, Burgoyne now returns with her brand-new single “We Had Fun.”
Co-written by Katrina and Marty Morgan, the ultra-catchy, pop country song takes us straight back to those nostalgic summertime moments while on holiday at the beach with your closest friends, perfectly reminding us of our carefree coming of age summers.
Burgoyne fondly remembers those good ole days through the chorus as she paints reminiscing pictures of them by singing us through lines of all the different ways that they had fun, including camping out under the boat docks, skinny dipping and getting their first taste of love, drinking wine from plastic cups, and throwing all the rules out the window and living it up.
The second verse continues to see her painting specific, though relatable, rule breaking moments as she sings, “doing things our folks can’t see, buying beer on fake ID,” leaving the “things” cleverly vague so the listener can insert their own memories into the song as they wax nostalgic while listening, giving this vibey, summer trip a connectibility factor.
Although her homeland of Australia is about to be sliding into its summer months, we here in the states have already started to experience a dip in temperatures as winter is fast approaching, giving this song the perfect opportunity to provide an escape back to the warmer weather and our own best memories.
They say that timing is everything in country music, and the late fall/winter release of “We Had Fun” could just be the perfect timing as many of the other artists have already segued out of their summer song onslaught, leaving the format wide open so a song like this doesn’t get lost in the summertime shuffle, giving Katrina Burgoyne a golden opportunity to regain the buzz she found with “Tennessee.”
