While there isn’t an official blueprint for an independent artist/songwriter to navigate in terms of “making it,” there’s the idea that Nashville is a 10-year town, and it certainly seems that notion is 100% accurate.

It makes sense then, that Dallas Remington is just over the 10-year mark and is experiencing the biggest amount of support to date on her newest single, “Steal Your Dad.”

Having already gained steam this year with “White Trash Heart,” and most recently with her outstanding cover of Sammy Kershaw’s “Queen of My Double Wide Trailer,” the unapologetically transparently honest Kentuckian has said about “Steal You Dad” that she’d like to say the song was written as a joke, but it might be based off actual thoughts.

Revenge songs are nothing new in country music, but Remington comes at this one from a whole different, much more memorable angle like we really haven’t heard since Tyler Dickerson’s “Tell Your Sister I’m Single.”

You know the age-old story; girl walks up to another’s man while wearing a mini-skirt and cowboy hat with daddy’s money in hand, flirting her way at his lusting nature resulting in the predictable breakup of him and Dallas (in this case). However, she quickly flips the script from potentially broken hearted to going with it stride as she immediately sets an intriguingly different tone, singing in the opening verse, “That’s just how love goes so it’s time to move on, I guess I’ll find me a new one too!”

Her revenge plan is then revealed in a chorus that will absolutely have you laughing along with it while making you second guess if you even heard her right as she sings with her signature snarl built into her Southern charmed voice:

You stole my man, so Ima steal your dad

I know you think you don’t think you done anything bad

But I’ll show you real quick how I can prove you wrong

You’re gonna think it’s real funny when you gotta call me mom

I’ll spend what’s left of the rest of his life holding his hand

You stole my man so ima steal your dad

Dallas then uses the second verse to tease that perhaps they will be married – whether for money or spite – and that the girl who stole her man doesn’t need to worry about her inheritance because Dallas will make sure it’s money well spent.

With an audience clap along built into the final chorus, very memorable lyrics, and an ultra-catchy melody, Dallas Remington has already shown how much this song resonates with fans while playing it out at songwriter nights around Music City, and by the looks of the streaming numbers ahead of its official release on her teaser videos, its time for Remington to hold on tight for the wild ride of success that is now well within’ striking distance.
