Nashville’s a town that’s full of artists and songwriters who are trying to discover their signature sound, elevate it with each song they release, and ultimately, grab the fans attention with a core style that immediately lets you know it’s them the minute that you hear it.

What I love so much about Carly Rogers is the extreme amount of versatility that she has continuously shown us that always keeps us guessing as she swerves outside the normal constraints of a comfort zone to blur genre lines while also finding her niche well within it.

Her back catalog contains songs such as the gritty, fist-pumping anthem “Hell Raised,” the heart tugging “These Walls,” which took us straight into the memories of her childhood home, the Sheryl Crow kissed melody of “Say Something Slick,” and the classic barroom country styling of the modern outlaw flavored “Drunk Side of Drinkin’.”

All these songs, in their own way, stay within the realm of the country music landscape. However, Rogers has also shown her ability to think way outside the box and hit us with something completely unexpected whenever she delves into the rap side of her arsenal, such as when she’s guesting on songs like “Fight” with Kentucky Music Mafia or the breakout smash “Step On It” alongside Upchurch.

She teams back up with the production team of DJ Cliffy D and DJ Orig to deliver “Now You Know,” a song which sees her embracing her alter ego so to speak as she raps her way through loops, beats, and overdubs while using her own story of climbing the music mountain to encourage and show the dreamer that it’s all attainable.

Taking us through spitfire lyrics that are full of attitude and swagger and come from the place atop the proverbial mountain, in an “in your face” type of way she declares to her doubters that she ain’t stopping if you’re waiting for that, while thankfully name checking those who taught her what it takes to “make it” such as Upchurch, Jelly, Kid Rock, etc.

However, when you dig past the “all I do is win” type of lyric and travel a little deeper than the surface, you’ll find Rogers isn’t being cocky here at all, but is simply using her own story to now encourage those who are coming up behind her, proudly sharing lines such as, “I’m just trying to prove to y’all that it’s unattainable.”

On one hand, when an artist walks way outside of the box, they run the risk of losing fans and losing ground. But on the other hand, they gain an entirely new audience when they boldly send the message that they aren’t afraid to take chances.

“Now You Know” is not a song that will find it’s way onto country radio, but rather, it will become a staple for DJ’s to play in the late night hours at the clubs as strobe lights swirl and dance floors pack with the party crowd while this song lights things up!
