Singer-songwriter Jo Smith has released her latest single, “I Like This Ring”, available on all streaming platforms now.  This song can be taken at literally or as metaphorically as the listener prefers to engage, which is one of the true traits of a greatly-written tune.

“I Like This Ring” is a story of growth, maturity, and self-realization.  It tells the tale of one’s evolution and self-worth, which are elements of our lives that sometimes get lost when we are in a relationship or a situation that, at times, unknowingly does harm to us.

Musically, the song is beautiful.  The acoustic guitar and lightly-introduced fiddle blend effortlessly to create an almost “coming-of-age” feel as the song progresses.  Jo’s vocals are perfectly on-point, blending melodically with the arrangement to fully capture the essence and vibe of the song’s material while absorbing the listener’s full attention from the onset.

We love music because of its unapologetic energy, and this song represents the freedom you feel when you are able to let go of the past, embrace the present, and look forward to the future.

Sometimes I wonder why I don’t

Throw it out of my window

On a gravel road, going sixty miles an hour

Let it lay out in the rain and sun

And by the time the summer comes

Be wrapped around a little wild flower

I don’t know what all that means

But I like this ring

Jo Smith is an incredibly gifted talent on the underground country music landscape.  “I Like This Ring” is one of her self-proclaimed favorite songs she’s ever written, and the passion behind the songwriting and vocal delivery is evident from start to finish.  With the musical creativity and lyrical ingenuity of this release, we, as fans and critics, cannot wait to see what comes next from this talented singer-songwriter.
