CCB Nashville has been doing an outstanding job of getting their artist’s music out there all year long through their #newmusicfriday initiative of releasing a new song every week from their roster. However, it’s Jamey D who is arguably becoming one of the unexpected breakout stories for the label.

In 2021, fans of the popular Cash Creek Club Live! only really knew Jamey D as the emcee who occasionally would play a song or two. This year has absolutely changed the perception as he’s worn his badges of singer, songwriter, and artist proudly on his sleeve while defining his signature sound and connecting his own life stories with those of the listener.

The gravel tilt that’s embedded into his vocal carries a built-in honesty that allows the listener to feel the impact of each song he’s delivered, whether it’s when he’s getting nostalgic on “Nights Like This,” sliding into a softer paced love song like “By Your Side,” or weaving us through a well-crafted story song ala the classic country style of lyrical masterpieces on “Country.”

Jamey now returns with what is his most personal song to date, “They Sure Did.”

Delving into that classic country storytelling like we heard on “Country,” Jamey delivers a heartfelt song about his own parents love story as he weaves us through his family photo albums.

Painting the early picture of how they met, he sings in the first verse of how his dad was a Texas farm boy, his mom was a brown eyed girl from the mountains of Virginia, and the two of them met when his dad was headed back east to try and make his way.

As they story progresses and they fall further in love with each other, Jamey transparently shares the truth that the inevitable ups and downs of life aren’t always easy as he sings of how they pinched pennies and prayed for dimes, shared sorrows and smiles, etc. But ultimately, how they also never lost sight of the love they had for each other since the day they made their vows.

The song gains even more depth, however, in the second half as Jamey begins to share about his own marriage today and trying to model it after his parents and all that he learned from them, but injects the centerpiece to any love true love story in its final chorus when he sings “I don’t know how we’ll make it, but by love we will, by God’s grace we will,” making the declaration that God and his unconditional love is the glue that binds two people together for a lifetime.

Personal story songs are always tough because an artist runs the risk of the song being so personal to them that it doesn’t resonate with the listener. Jamey D skirts away from that to deliver a song that carries very easy to relate to lyrics that are full of power and truth as he pushes his own stories through the speakers of your radio to connect them straight to your own as you wax nostalgic on your parents and grandparents love stories while exploring your own.
