As songwriter Harlan Howard notoriously depicted, the necessary ingredients for country music are “three chords and the truth”.  And while the musical sophistication and creativity has certainly developed over the years, the “truth” aspect of the genre still rings true to this day.

As country music continues to evolve and different factors influence the music and lyrics of the tunes, there are those releases that “take it back” to the days of a good traditional country song – it makes you think, it makes you feel, and it makes you want to hear it again and again.

“The Last Time”, the new release from Tenille Townes, is a song about those moments we wish we could have back, for not knowing that those would be the last moments we would have at the time.

Written by Townes along with Ben Goldsmith and Gordie Sampson, the tune tells the tale of those special moments we all have in life that unfortunately don’t last forever.  From driving you child to his/her first day of school to the last holiday spent with a grandparent, we should cherish all the moments we experience as they happen, appreciating them to the fullest while also understanding that the first time is eventually followed by the last time.

Everyone remembers the first time

‘Cause a heart knows there’ll never be another like this

But the thing about the last time

Is you don’t know that it’s the last time ‘til it is

Tenille’s last EP, Masquerades, is available everywhere now.  She is currently on the road, playing dates across the world, including her native Canada as well as Australia, the UK, and the United States, capped off by two dates opening  for George Strait on November 18 and 19 in Fort Worth, TX.
