When hit songwriter Shy Carter emerged from behind the pen to release his country single “Beer With My Friends” that featured David Lee Murphy and Cole Swindell, everyone who heard the song knew that it was going to become a party anthem – as did the leader of the ‘No Shoes Nation,’ Kenny Chesney.

“There’s nothing like hitting that local bar with your friends,” Chesney has said in interviews, while also confessing that his whole summer tour has felt just like this.

Written by Bryan Simpson, Shy Carter, and David Lee Murphy -  who is no stranger to Kenny Chesney (“Livin’ in Fast Forward,” “Bar At The End of the World,” “Pirate Flag,” Etc.) - the up-tempo, guitar lick driven song is the perfect embodiment of what we’ve come to expect from Chesney at this point in his career.

Right now, I really need a beer with my friends,” he sings on the very first line as he then spells out all the reasons for it as the song progresses, whether it’s simply because it’s been too long, that it pulls him out of the everyday rut, or because he doesn’t feel like going home to drink alone once the party has already started.

Setting the feel-good scene of the bar, he perfectly paints the atmosphere and spirit that lives within its walls as having a corner jukebox pumping out tunes and knowing everyone at the bar by the end of the night, while using the last chorus to keep everything moving in forward motion when he sings, “tomorrow night we’re gonna do it all over again.”

By including tourmates Old Dominion on the song, it feels like they’ve invited us straight into their friendship as they make us feel like we’re one of those friends at the bar who is drinking a beer with them.

Having seen Shy Carter perform this song all summer long at the Skydeck here in Nashville as all of his friends danced on stage during it to ignite a summertime rooftop party, we were already able to envision the ‘No Shoes Nation’ doing the same, making “Beer With My Friends” an integral part of the audience participation at any Kenny show.

However, because his ‘Here and Now Tour’ has just wrapped, this song very cleverly leaves his rabid fan base already anticipating next year’s tour so they can raise their solo cup into the air and sing it along with him.
