Country music group Heartland raced up the charts in 2006 with their single “I Loved Her First,” and they instantly claimed stake to that year’s most played wedding song. 15 years later, and Craig Anderson – one of the co-founding members of Heartland – has teamed up with Lance Horton to form the duo Madison Station.

Though their first release “Life Leaving Its Mark” may have been what introduced them to country radio, their new single “Shoes Under My Bed” will get them added into heavy rotation.

There’s just something special about a country love song from the 2010 era, and although “Shoes Under My Bed” is a new song, it sounds like one of those great love songs from that bygone time.

Plain and simple, this is a song for those who are falling more than you ever thought you would and are now ready to take the relationship to the next level.

The softer pace of the song wraps around the lyrics as Horton runs through a list of all the different ways that he wants to feel her presence in his life (and in his home): her shoes under his bed, her toothbrush next to his, her makeup in the sink, a closet full of pink clothing, her lipstick on his cup, etc.

There’s also a subtle line dropped in that turns up the necessary heat that a song like this needs to have when he sings, “my hardwood floor to catch your dress.”

Without so much as saying it, there’s an overall feeling that he’s not just asking her to move in with him, but to marry him, as he fuses in a crafty play on words with a line late in the song; “What I’m trying to say beautiful girl, is I want your world here in my world.”

Whereas a lot of love songs right now are geared more towards the young love demographic, “Shoes Under My Bed” is clearly aimed at attracting the more mature couple who is further along in their relationship than just a first-time crush or a summertime fling. That aim, which is sorely missing in country music right now, is what gives this song a refreshing feel and will create a substantial buzz for Madison Station.
