With seven #1 singles to their credit, Old Dominion is easily one of country music’s hottest bands of the current era…and a few stadium tours with Kenny Chesney certainly didn’t hurt them any.

Not only did those summer tours with Chesney help elevate Old Dominion’s name, but they’ve also clearly played an influential role on some of their recent music - including their newest single “I Was On A Boat That Day.”

The song focuses on that very specific feeling when you just don’t have a care in the world that your relationship has come to an end because you are busy soaking up the sun and having the best day of your life – a vibe similar to their tour mates “Save It For A Rainy Day.”

Matching the catchy, summery feel of the up-tempo song are equally as carefree lyrics which include lines such as, “she was packing her bags, I was popping a top,” “She could’ve been halfway to Houston, but I didn’t care,” and “Was she laughing, was she crying as she walked away, I can’t say…I was on a boat that day.”

This is a song clearly built to be played in a stadium setting with a live crowd screaming out the lyrics as they dance along with the rhythm and hold their drinks high into the air – look no further than the clap along moment during the very quick break coming out of the second chorus for a perfect example of this.

Old Dominion hasn’t had an upbeat single climb to the #1 position since 2018’s “Hotel Key” and “Make It Sweet” achieved the feat back-to-back. Time will tell if “I Was On A Boat That Day” will notch them their next top charting song, but either way, a perfect anthem for the summertime has just arrived!
