Known for his platinum certified single “After A Few,” Travis Denning has continuously captured the buzz with song releases such as “ABBY,” “Call it Country,” and his latest single “She’s On It,” the latter which gave us our first taste of a forthcoming promised EP.

With the official announcement now made that his 6-song EP Might As Well Be Me will be releasing on August 5, 2022, he’s also gifted his fans on the very same day as that announcement with another look at what to expect from the EP with “Buy A Girl A Drink.”

The song, co-written by Denning, Jeremy Stover, Paul DiGiovanni, and Chase McGill, continues to give us the signature modern infused pop country tilted sound that we’ve come to expect from him, while leaning the softer, mid-tempo vibe into lyrics that strike a tender chord as he runs through the list of different reasons to take the chance and buy a girl a drink at the bar.

Using the opening verse, he shows you all the different outcomes of how you can spend your money, including watching it disappear if you buy a boat, seeing it double if you buy land, and warning that football’s not the way to go if you’re going to be it all away. However, it’s the final line of the opening verse that pushes the entire song into its purpose, when Denning knowingly sings, “If you really want to spend the best $7.50 you can…”

This line sets the entire chorus in motion as he runs us down a life list as to why you need to spend your money on a drink for the girl at the bar and what all it could lead to:

Buy a girl a drink, talk to her all night

Call her three days later, kiss her in the porch light

Go meet her mom and dad Labor Day weekend

Catch hell from your buddies cause you’re in the deep end

Buy a ring get married honeymoon on an island

Raise babies and look back smiling

From a rocking chair, man I swear you’ll be there fast as you can blink

Just buy a girl a drink

Denning then masterfully flips the lyric and speaks directly to the heart of shy fella at the bar as he encourages to move outside your comfort zone, suggesting ordering one up for yourself to get courage first and to then say something to her that he thinks is smooth; because ultimately if she’s the one, “you can’t afford not to!”

Though the scenario doesn’t always work out this way, what if it does? Travis Denning not only further hypes his new EP with this release, but he also provides a song that could offer the courage for a guy to go on and take the chance to talk to the girl who might just change everything!
