Liddy Clark made a big impact on the music industry buzz surrounding her when she released her last single “Do I Miss You,” a song that brought together pop sensibilities, solid songwriting, and several country elements to lean against a softer pace as she utilized her strong vocal abilities to pull out all the proper emotions necessary to uphold the lyric.

The sheer honesty in her naturally gifted storytelling adds a unique flavor to her overall style, whether it be on a softer, emotionally packed song like her previous single or on more of a float on the breeze, chilled out style as she delivers on her latest release “Austin.”

Written by Liddy Clark and Marti Dodson, “Austin” lyrically tackles the idea of having to watch from afar as someone who once carried big dreams of leaving behind their small hometown is now instead sitting today in the mundane day to day life of never actually doing it.

Running through a list of things that he always dreamed of wanting to do, Clark spells it out for the listener through lines such as, “He said he was going to Boston” and “He said he was going to LA, he was going to make his own way.”

However, she quickly flips the script with a couple of well-placed “used to’s” that indicates the dreamer he once was isn’t who he is today, before bringing her conflicting emotions to light regarding him never actually chasing after his big dreams though the chorus when she sings:

And I don’t know what happened

I keep looking back and

All I see is him sitting there in the same old life

Same faraway look in his eyes

It’s crazy I used to think that maybe

He was going places

But he’s wasting all he could have been

I keep my fingers crossed yea

That one day he’ll leave Austin.”

Clark power packs the emotion in her voice as she sings about what is most likely is an ex, but could also apply to a best friend, sibling, etc. from the point of view of sitting on the sidelines and watching him living miserably in the small-town status quo while still hoping deep down that one day he’d find himself again and fly beyond it’s confining borders to become what he’s dreamed of being.

Already a great song as it is, it’s how Clark intertwines the inspirational message to chase after your big dreams while you have the chance that truly lifts the song to a whole other level and draws the listener in as it connects heart to heart with them.
