Tyler Hubbard has released his solo debut single, “5 Foot 9”, via EMI Records Nashville.  He co-wrote the track along with Jaren Johnston and Chase McGill, and co-produced along with Jordan Schmidt.  This song is unapologetically reminiscent of what we have come to expect from award-winning duo Florida Georgia Line, for which Hubbard has been a member for the last decade.  The resemblance, of course, comes as no surprise, as Tyler has penned seven No. 1 hits for the multi-Platinum-selling duo, making them one of the most successful pairs in the genre’s history.

That is not to sell this song, short, however.  “5 Foot 9” incorporates a lot of elements into one musical vessel, with Hubbard’s influences of urban, reggae, and modern country all blending together for song that should appeal to most fans.  It’s a radio-friendly melody with relatable, sing-along lyrics which will surely resonate with fans well beyond the first listen.

God makes

5 foot 9, brown eyes in a sundress

Love Tim McGraw and a small-town accent

Ain’t no way that me and this truck made her fall in love

Jack makes good whiskey

But God makes the good stuff

Due partially to Hubbard’s wildly popular success with FGL, his tenure as an accomplished songwriter has somewhat flown under the radar for mainstream country music fans.  He has written cuts for the likes of Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Little Big Town, and Thomas Rhett, among others, and he worked with some of the most prominent in the business for his upcoming debut solo record, including Ross Copperman, Jon Nite, and Rhett Akins.

With Florida Georgia Line on a previously announced hiatus, fans can expect to hear and see more of Hubbard as a solo artist in the months to come, including a release date for his full-length album as well as a tour dates/appearances.
